Shaw, Richard Norman (1831–1912), architect, was born in Edinburgh on 7 May 1831. His father, William Shaw (c.1779–1833), was an Irish protestant, the son of a Dublin coach builder; at the time of the child's birth, he was an Edinburgh lace merchant in impoverished circumstances, and he died less than two years later. ...
