Brwmffild, Mathau [Mathew] (fl.c. 1525–c. 1545), poet, is an obscure figure of unknown origins. Although his name suggests an affinity with the lordship of Bromfield in north-east Wales, the few pieces of extant poetry, about twenty in all, picture an itinerant poet—on one occasion he would bemoan 'Rhoed ym boen … rhodio o bell 'r hyd y byd' (...
