Lawrence, Gertrude [real name Gertrud Alexandra Dagma Lawrence Klasen] (1898–1952), actress, was born in London on 4 July 1898. Her father, Arthur Lawrence Klasen, a music-hall singer, was Danish; her mother, Alice Louise Banks, was English. The child's parents were divorced while she was still in infancy and she lived first with her mother, a small-part actress, then later with her father.
