Holland, Sir Thomas Henry (1868–1947), geologist and civil servant, was born at Helston Mills, Helston, Cornwall, on 22 November 1868, the son of John Holland, a miller, formerly of Springfield, Manitoba, and his wife, Grace Treloar, daughter of William Roberts, farmer. His Canadian family played a notable part in his life and in shaping his view of the world, its morphology, and its minerals.
