Hawthorn, (John) Michael [Mike] (1929–1959), racing motorist, was born in Mexborough, Yorkshire, on 10 April 1929, the only son of Leslie Hawthorn (d. 1954), motor engineer and racing motorcyclist, and his wife, Winifred Mary Symonds.
