Gamgee, Arthur (1841–1909), physiologist, born in Florence on 10 October 1841, was youngest of the eight children of Joseph Gamgee (1801–1894), veterinary surgeon and pathologist, and Mary Ann West. Joseph Sampson Gamgee (1828–1886) and John Gamgee were elder brothers.
