Cooper, Sir (Thomas) Edwin (1874–1942), architect, was born at 44 Nelson Street, Scarborough, on 21 October 1874, the eldest child of Samuel Cooper, carriage proprietor, and his wife, Ann, daughter of Thomas Pickering, an agricultural labourer. Cooper's father died during his childhood, and his mother, recognizing his talent for drawing, encouraged him towards his future career. ...
