Russell, Dorothy Stuart (1895–1983), pathologist, was born on 27 June 1895, in Sydney, Australia, the second daughter of Philip Stuart Russell, bank clerk, and his wife, Alice Louisa, daughter of William Cave. She was orphaned when she was three, by the death of her father, and at the age of eight, by the death of her mother, who had remarried.
