Priestley, John Boynton (1894–1984), writer, was born on 13 September 1894 at 34 Mannheim Road, Bradford, Yorkshire, the only child of Jonathan Priestley (1868–1924), schoolmaster, and his first wife, Emma Holt (1865–1896).
