Küchemann, Dietrich Friedrich Gustav (1911–1976), aerodynamicist, was born in Göttingen, Germany, on 11 September 1911, the eldest of three children and only son of Rudolf Küchemann, schoolmaster, and his wife, Martha Egener. Between 1921 and 1930 he attended the Oberrealschule, Göttingen, at which his father taught and from which, in 1933, his father was to be dismissed for his refusal to subscribe to National Socialist doctrine: this was the culmination of a long and determined opposition, shared, but more circumspectly displayed, by his son ...
