Diefenbaker, John George (1895–1979), prime minister of Canada, was born in Neustadt, Ontario, on 18 September 1895, the older of the two sons of William Thomas Diefenbaker (1868–1945), a schoolteacher, and his wife, Mary Florence Bannerman (1872–1951).
