Wolfe, James (1727–1759), army officer, was born at the vicarage, Westerham, Kent, on 2 January 1727, the elder of two sons of Lieutenant-General Edward Wolfe (1685–1759) and his wife, Henrietta (d. 1764), the daughter of Edward Thompson of Long Marston, Yorkshire.
