Watson, Peter William (bap. 1761, d. 1830), botanist, was born at Hull and baptized at Holy Trinity Church there on 26 August 1761. He was educated at the grammar school under Joseph Milner (1744–1797), and occupied in early life in trade; he was an enthusiastic student of botany, entomology, chemistry, and mineralogy, and a skilful landscape painter.
