Vossius, Gerardus Joannes (1577–1649), humanist scholar and author, was born in Heidelberg, Germany, probably in March or April 1577, the son of Joannes Vossius (Alopecius; 1549–1585), Calvinistic minister, and Cornelia Van Buel (d. 1584).
