Valpy, Edward (1764–1832), classical scholar, was born at Reading, the fourth son of Richard Valpy of St John's, Jersey, and his wife, Catherine, daughter of John Chevalier. He went to school at Bury St Edmunds and was admitted to Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1781, although as a 'ten-year man' he deferred matriculation until he graduated BD in 1810.
