Thornycroft, Thomas (1815–1885), sculptor, was born in Great Tidnock, near Gawsworth, Cheshire, on 19 May 1815 and baptized on 16 June 1816 in Gawsworth church, the eldest of three sons of John Thornycroft (1791–1822), a farmer, and his wife, Ann Cheetham (1795–1875), who also came from a farming background. ...
