Sulien [Sulgen, Sulgenus] (c. 1012–1091), bishop of St David's, was born of a noble family at Llanbadarn Fawr in Ceredigion (Cardiganshire). He studied in monastic schools in Wales, Scotland (where he spent five years), and Ireland (where he spent ten), and then returned to his native district, where he soon made a reputation as a teacher....
