Schwartz, Martin (d. 1487), mercenary, was born in Augsburg in the Holy Roman empire. A Swiss chronicle suggests that Schwartz left the trade of shoemaker to become a mercenary, first distinguishing himself with valour in 1475 at the siege of Neuss, Rhineland, where he was knighted.
