Rymer, Thomas (1642/3–1713), literary critic and historian, the son of Ralph Rymer (bap. 1601, d. 1664), lord of the manor of Brafferton, Yorkshire, was probably born at Yafforth, in the same county. His father, although at one time treasurer of his district during the Commonwealth, was arrested on 12 October 1663 for participating in the presbyterian rising, and on 7 January 1664 was condemned for treason and hanged.
