Benson, Christopher (1788–1868), Church of England clergyman, was born on 16 January 1788, at Cockermouth, the son of Thomas Benson, solicitor. He went to Eton College and then in 1804 obtained a scholarship at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he took his BA degree in 1809 and his MA in 1815.
