Northwold, Hugh of (d. 1254), bishop of Ely, took his name from the Norfolk parish of Northwold. The son of Peter and Emma, in 1202 he was professed a monk at Bury St Edmunds, and was subsequently appointed sub-cellarer there. Abbot Samson having died at the end of 1211, on 25 July 1212 ...
