Nelson, Sir Alexander Abercromby (1814–1893), army officer, was born at Walmer, Kent, on 30 June 1814. He was educated at the Royal Military College, Sandhurst, and on 6 March 1835 was appointed ensign 40th foot, in which regiment his two brothers, and later his son, also served.
