Merivale, Charles (1808–1893), historian and dean of Ely, second son in the large family of John Herman Merivale (1779–1844), commissioner in bankruptcy, and Louisa Heath (1787–1873), daughter of Joseph Drury, was born at 14 East Street, Red Lion Square, London, on 8 March 1808.
