Lines, Samuel (1778–1863), designer and art teacher, was born at Allesley, near Coventry, on 7 February 1778, the son of John Lines (1746/7–1831) and his wife, Mary, née Rostill (1739/40–1787). His mother was mistress of a boarding-school in the town. On his mother's death in his boyhood he was placed in the charge of an uncle, a farmer, who employed him in agricultural work. ...
