Lax, William (1761–1836), astronomer, was the son of William Lax of Ravensworth, North Riding of Yorkshire. He was educated at Kirkby on the Hill, North Riding of Yorkshire, and was admitted as a sizar in 1780 to Trinity College, Cambridge.
