Horenbout [Hornebolt], Gerard (d. 1540/41), painter, is first recorded in 1487 at Ghent in the Low Countries. His father's name, Willem, is recorded in the document of 27 August 1487 by which he became a master painter at Ghent. His family origins are otherwise obscure, but he used an elaborate coat of arms, indicating that he came from a gentle family. He had by 1517 married ...
