Hoadly, Benjamin (1676–1761), bishop of Winchester, was born on 14 November 1676 at Westerham in Kent, the sixth of the nine children of the Revd Samuel Hoadly (1643–1705), schoolmaster at Westerham, and his second wife, Martha (1639–1703), the daughter of Benjamin Pickering.
