Harley, John (d. 1557/8), bishop of Hereford, is said by Wood to have been a native of Herefordshire; however, an alternative tradition names Newton Pagnell in Buckinghamshire as his birthplace. He was educated at Magdalen College, Oxford, from where he graduated BA on 5 July 1536, proceeded MA on 4 June 1540, and was admitted BTh before 1550, and where he was a probationary fellow from 1537 to 1542.
