Gordon, Thomas (1788–1841), soldier and historian, was born at Cairness on 8 December 1788, the eldest and only surviving son of Charles Gordon of Buthlaw and Cairness in Lonmay, Aberdeenshire, and his wife, Christian, daughter of Thomas Forbes of Ballogie.
