Ware, James Redding (1832–1909), writer and lexicographer, was born in Southwark, Surrey, on 17 October 1832, the eldest son of James Ware (1801/2–1849), a grocer, and his wife, Elizabeth, née Redding (b. c.1805), of 102 Union Street, Southwark. Ware was not listed at home at the time of the 1841 census.
