Gentileschi [married name Stiattesi], Artemisia (1593–1652/3), painter, was born in via di Ripetta, Rome, on 8 July 1593, daughter of the painter Orazio Gentileschi (1563–1639) and Prudenzia Montoni (1575–1605). Her initial artistic training almost certainly took place in the surroundings of her father's studio, he having already been influenced by the new caravaggesque style at that time.
