Whittington, Harry Blackmore (1916–2010), geologist and palaeontologist, was born on 24 March 1916 at 6 St Peter's Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, the only son of Harry Whittington, a capstan worker in a gunsmith's, and his wife, Edith Mary, née Blackmore.
