Elgar, Sir Edward William, baronet locked



Elgar, SirEdward William, baronet (1857–1934), composer, was born at Broadheath, near Worcester, 2 June 1857, the fifth child and eldest surviving son of William Henry Elgar, by his wife, Ann, daughter of Joseph Greening, of Weston, Herefordshire. The father, who came from Dover, settled in Worcester in 1841, and was for many years organist of St. George's Roman Catholic church there.
