Oxford DNB Free Access
The three-day period of free access to the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, in celebration of the first anniversary of its publication, finished at midnight, UK time, on Sunday 25 September.
It's no longer possible to register for Free Access, or to sign in to the dictionary with a Free Access sign in.
Today's life
Free Access is over, but you can still read Oxford DNB biographies for free. Every day a different biography from the Oxford DNB appears as Today's life. And we always have a week's worth of lives up on the site, as our Lives of the Week.
You can even sign up to receive Today's Life by email, every morning. If you would like to receive a daily biography in your in-box, visit our sign up page. It's free!
Find the Oxford DNB in a library near you
Many public libraries subscribe to the Oxford DNB, and many of them have a system of remote access, meaning that, if you are a member, you can use the library's subscription to access the Oxford DNB from home. Consult our list of subscribing public libraries in the UK and Ireland.
Many academic institutions, in the UK and elsewhere in the world, subscribe (and also support remote access). Ask your librarian if your institution already subscribes.
Free trials for institutions
30-day free trials for institutions, such as libraries and schools, are always available. Your librarian or central resource coordinator can request a trial by emailing onlineproducts@oup.com or visiting https://ams.oup.com/user/trial2003.pfm (North and South America).
