Green and pleasant land: gardeners in the Oxford DNB
The Oxford DNB includes entries on 250 men and women known for their contribution to British gardening, from the 14th to the 21st century. Recent ODNB updates have added 50 new biographies of gardeners, designers, plant collectors, and broadcasters.
To mark the end of this project (part of the May 2009 update), we offer a selection of these new biographies alongside some other well-known names. Many are associated with popular plants or public gardens: just click on a name to read more.
A full list of gardeners in the ODNB is available with subscriber access. Access to the ODNB online is available, free and at home, via nearly all UK public libraries.
