Straub, Marianne (1909–1994), textile designer, was born on 23 September 1909 in Amriswil, Thurgau, Switzerland, the second of four daughters of Carl Straub (1871–1927), textile yarn merchant, and his wife, Cécile Kappeler (1881–1973). Despite her father's business Straub's interest in textiles developed independently, while she lived in a tubercular ward from the age of three and a half to eight.
