Tinworth, George (1843–1913), sculptor and potter, the fourth son of Joshua Tinworth, wheelwright, and his wife, Jane Daniel, was born at 6 Milk Street, Walworth, London, on 5 November 1843. The family was extremely poor and, as a child, he suffered considerable hardship. The strict, dissenting, religious beliefs of his parents restricted his education to biblical texts; throughout his life he remained semi-literate.
