Leng, John (1665–1727), Latin scholar and bishop of Norwich, was born at Thornton-le-Dale, near Pickering, Yorkshire. He received his early education at St Paul's School, London, and obtained an exhibition at St Catharine's College, Cambridge, where he was admitted a sizar on 26 March 1683, graduating BA (1686), MA (1690), BD (1698), and DD (1716).
