Kelton, Arthur (d. 1549/50), verse chronicler, was probably a native of Shrewsbury. His parents and date of birth are unknown. Wood says he was thought to be Welsh, but Kelton himself seems to have been uncertain about his national identity. In his first published work he refers to the Welsh as 'they', but in the second he writes from the perspective of 'we Welshmen'; probably he was English by birth and language, but Welsh by descent.
