Havelock, Sir Henry (1795–1857), army officer, was born on Easter day, 5 April 1795, at Ford Hall, Bishopwearmouth, near Sunderland, second son of William Havelock (1757–1837), shipbuilder and shipowner, and Jane, daughter of John Carter, solicitor, of Stockton-on-Tees. She gave her children a strict religious upbringing and her premature death in 1810 came as a grievous shock to young ...
