Harding, Silvester [Sylvester] (1745x51–1809), artist and publisher, was born at Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire, on 5 August 1745, the son of Sylvester and Mary Harding who married there on 11 August 1745. He was looked after by an uncle in London, but at the age of fourteen ran away and joined a company of strolling actors, with whom he played under an assumed name for some years.
