Stuart McPhail Hall (1932–2014)

A hugely influential figure in the field of cultural studies, Stuart Hall, born in Jamaica, arrived in England in 1951. His position as a 'familiar stranger' (the title of his posthumous autobiography) informed his insights into the place where he made his career and home.
