(Wladyslaw) Konrad Smigielski (1908–1999)
In Leicester in the early 1960s, the Polish-born town planner Konrad Smigielski, attempted a radical approach to the challenge of motor traffic in Britain’s cities, with a single inner motorway, and public transport in the city centre. His major achievement proved to be the restoration of the city’s Georgian promenade.
